What is VPK?

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is an education program funded by the state for the purpose of preparing every four-year-old living in Florida for kindergarten. The program gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life by delivering a quality early education program.

Small Steps Academy participates as a private provider of VPK by maintaining the highest quality of standards including:

  • Qualified instructors

  • Age-appropriate curricula with high language, literacy, and math standards

  • Manageable class sizes*

  • A substantial school-year instruction period of 540 hours, and

  • Accountability to the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler & Volusia

* Class sizes will not exceed 11 students with 1 lead instructor and up to 20 students with a lead instructor and an assistant.

Small Steps has a low student to teacher ratio and children are challenged with the joy of learning.  Play is the basic ingredient of all learning and we use a variety of learning activities to include every child.

Daily activities include Bible stories, discovery play, songs and music, outside play, snack time, arts and crafts, fine and gross motor skills, letter and number time as well as learning actvities and games.

Small Steps provides a safe, nurturing and Christian environment that feeds your child's faith.  They are taught social skills and how to feel comfortable expressing their emotions and in handling transitions.

Chapel is held every Friday and family is welcome to attend.
